@iloveanchorage holiday gift guide, part 1

iloveanchorage, part oneI’m pretty excited to be this week’s guest host of the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation’s @iloveanchorage Instagram account. This super-cool project has a new guest host post photos and share Anchorage through their eyes each week. If you haven’t followed the @iloveanchorage Instagram account yet, you better get to clicking!

My focus as the host is to share my favorite shopping spots and help out with your holiday gift giving. All stores featured in my photos are locally owned, and each day I’m focusing on a different theme. I’ll also recap the day’s gift picks here at the end of each day.

Here’s Monday’s guide to shopping local for the ladies in your life:

Gift No. 1: This polka-dot PJ set ($115) from About Face (1005 E. Dimond Blvd., No. 2B) is sure to be her Christmas-morning pajama-jam. At About Face, You can also find gifts for gals who didn’t spend enough time on the naughty list this year, including gorgeous lingerie and lots of lovely scented body products.

Gift No. 2: Check out the latest addition to the Southside shopping scene, Zucchini’s Cooking Store (11108 Old Seward Highway), and espresso love for your coffee-addicted lady with my holiday gift number two: a Bialetti Moka Express stovetop espresso maker ($29.95-$74.95).

Gift No. 3: These moon boots ($110-$150) from Her Tern Boutique (811 W. Eighth Ave.) are made for walking through the mounds of snow Anchorage just received. Or maybe the lady on your gift list just needs a way to brighten (and cozy) up what’s looking like a very white Christmas. Either way, they are my gal gift number three! Her Tern also has tons of great clothing, shoe and eclectic jewelry options.

Gift No. 4: Bella Boutique (2601 Spenard Road) is always chock-full of handmade goodies, including locally made jewelry. I’m a fan of some of the original Bella designers that are still creating and innovating. These earrings from the funky Annie’s Arts and Follies ($29) and delicate Letita Brisson Designs ($38) make up number four on my gal gift list.

Gift No. 5: These Hipster Rehab wooden sunglasses ($89) at the eco-chic Circular Boutique (320 W. Sixth Ave.), in redwood (pictured here) and zebrawood options, are number five on my list of women’s gifts. Wooden’t your lady wood look trees chic in these?

Gift No. 6: This gift list wouldn’t be remotely Alaskan without at least one athletic option. Bodyphlo (1002 W. Northern Lights Blvd.) can fit your lady’s fitness pursuits whether she’s a yogi or backcountry babe. Number six on my gifts for gals are these MPG patterned tights ($64) paired with this Splits59 pullover ($114) – good for getting out the mat or even just stretching for the remote.

Gift No. 7: Heaven is any of the buttery leather Hammitt handbags (clutches pictured here start at $225) Boutique Blush (720 D Street, Unit C), so if you’re looking for a high-end holiday gift to spoil her head here. Other Blush-worthy options that might make your lady turn a rosy hue include juicy jewelry, cozy knits and lots of sequin and sparkle.

Gift No. 8: The sparkling Numph collar necklace ($35) back at Her Tern (811 W. Eighth Ave.) is practically the female version of collar-popping swagger, which makes it number eight on my all-girl holiday gift guide. Also, I have trouble simply putting them down because they’re so pretty so someone needs to buy them so I don’t.

Gift No. 9: Last stop on my gift list for the ladies is back at Circular Boutique (320 W. Sixth Ave.) for these House of Harlow bracelets ($48 each). The smooth shine and contrasting-texture combo give these bangles their bling and make them totally gift-bag worthy.
